Essential MeterHome™ Safety Protocols
Audience: External (Public)
Purpose: To provide homeowners with essential safety information, clear warnings, and the correct procedures for emergency situations involving their MeterHome™ system.
Your Safety Comes First
Your MeterHome™ Energy Storage System is a powerful electrical appliance that has been tested and certified to the highest safety standards, including UL9540 and UL9540A. However, like any high-voltage system, it must be treated with respect.
This guide outlines the essential safety protocols that you, the homeowner, must follow.
WARNING: NO USER-SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE
The ESS Inverter and ESS Battery enclosures contain high-voltage components that can cause serious injury or death.
- NEVER attempt to open, modify, or repair any part of the MeterHome™ system.
- There are no user-serviceable parts inside either the inverter or the battery enclosure.
- Opening the units will void your 10-year warranty and create a dangerous situation. All service must be performed by a MeterHome™ Certified Installer.
Emergency Procedure: Abnormal Noise, Odor, or Smoke
This is the most critical safety protocol. If you notice any unusual physical symptoms from your system, you must act immediately.
Step 1: Assess for Immediate Danger Is there any visible smoke or flames coming from the unit?
- If YES: Your immediate priority is life safety.
- Evacuate everyone from the house immediately.
- Call 911 from a safe location outside.
- Do not attempt to fight the fire yourself. Do not go back inside.
- If NO: If you only notice a strange chemical odor or an unusual electrical noise (buzzing, popping), proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Perform an Emergency Shutdown If the situation is not an immediate fire emergency, perform a complete shutdown to de-energize the system.
- AC Breaker OFF: Go to your main electrical panel and turn OFF the circuit breaker for the inverter.
- DC Disconnect OFF: Turn the large rotary DC disconnect switch on the side of the inverter to the 'OFF' position.
- Battery Breaker OFF: Turn the circuit breaker on the side of the battery enclosure to the 'OFF' position.
Step 3: Contact Support After performing a shutdown or evacuating, call MeterHome Support immediately at 866-846-7416 to report the incident. Do not attempt to turn the system back on for any reason.
General Safety Protocols
- Keep Clearances: Do not store items in the required clearance zones around the system (39.4 inches in front and top, 11.8 inches on sides and rear). Proper airflow is essential for safe operation.
- Avoid Physical Impact: Protect the system from physical damage.
- Keep Dry: The system is rated for indoor installation only (IP44). Do not expose the units to water or flooding. If the system is exposed to water, perform an emergency shutdown and call for service.
